Getting a home ready for coming out of hospital

Calm, hands-on help in West London, for the person coming home or the family getting things ready.

A hospital stay or an operation often ends with a few days' notice. Then the home has to work for someone who is tired, a bit unsteady, or can't bend or carry like before. If the flat was already full, or things piled up while they were away, that can feel like a lot to sort out in a hurry.

That is the part Healing Spaces helps with. Not care, not cleaning: the practical, hands-on sorting that makes a home easier to come back to.

What the help looks like

  • Clear paths

Walkways from the bed to the bathroom and the kitchen, without things to step around.

  • Space for what's needed

Room for a bed downstairs, a chair, a frame or other kit the hospital team mentions.

  • Everyday things in reach

Kettle, cups, clothes, chargers and medicines moved to waist height, where they're easy to get to.

  • Sorting what's piled up

Gently, with the person in charge of every decision. Nothing goes without a yes.

  • A simple plan for the first weeks

What to keep near, what can wait, and who to call.

Who it's for

  • Someone planning ahead of an operation, who wants the home ready before they go in.
  • A family member getting a parent's or partner's home ready for discharge.
  • Support workers and housing teams with a tenant coming home.

Coming home from Ealing, West Middlesex, Central Middlesex, Hammersmith or St Mary's Hospital, or from Clayponds in Brentford? Those are all close to us. From further afield, such as Hillingdon, Charing Cross or Northwick Park, we can usually still come; travel is agreed upfront.

What it isn't

Healing Spaces doesn't give medical advice or personal care. For anything about health, recovery or equipment, the hospital team, the GP or the NHS are the right people. Kari works alongside them, on the home.

How it starts

A free first chat, by video or phone, usually 20 to 60 minutes. Video works best: you can show us the rooms that worry you most. No need to tidy first; we've seen it all.

It's a free planning chat first, then hands-on sessions. We'll tell you our next available dates when you get in touch. For what sessions cost, see pricing.

"It's so important to me that people know I'm not judging them. I've been there."

Questions people ask

Can you help before the discharge date is set?
Yes. Starting early is often calmer: we can plan now and do the hands-on part when the date is clearer.
Do I need to be there?
The person whose home it is stays in charge. If they're still in hospital, a family member can join, and we agree every decision with them.
Is this a cleaning service?
No. It's sorting, clearing and arranging. If a deep clean is needed too, we can suggest local cleaners.
Where do you cover?
Ealing, Hounslow, Hillingdon, Hammersmith and Fulham, Brent, Harrow and nearby. Further away, the planning chat by video still works.

If you are worried someone is in immediate danger or crisis, contact their GP, NHS 111, or in an emergency 999. You can also reach Samaritans on 116 123, SHOUT by texting 85258, or Mind on 0300 123 3393. Healing Spaces is a calm home-support service, not a crisis or clinical service.
